Day 3: Nebraska to Wyoming

the antelope!
Layne and I woke up at 8 this morning and were driving by 9. Pretty good considering we had to pack back up, shower, and check out of the hotel! Our drive through Nebraska was much more enjoyable for me. The weather was amazing and the views a bit more intriguing. When we stopped for lunch and gas a few hours later, I hopped out of the car with my tank top on and IMMEDIATELY grabbed my jacket... the temps were much cooler than when we left this morning! It was nice. After seeing two older men in cowboy hats (I love it!) and filling our tummies with delicious Subway sammichs we were off again! There is nothing too much to say about it, besides seeing more hills, black cows (they make chocolate milk of course...!!!), and way less civilization we finally stopped again upon reaching Wyoming! This time we were ready for the sign to take a picture! I was NOT going to miss another state welcome sign! (they are sneaky and come up on you outta nowhere... grrr)
We arrived at F.E. Warren AFB around 3:30 and immediately fell in love. Layne had never even heard of the base (they are a space and missiles base- no airstrip at all), but it's absolutely gorgeous. We checked into the inn and are staying in an awesome old home from the 1800's. This whole base has maintained the old colonial feel, just updated for the new times we live in.... haha. We quickly unloaded our bags, through on some workout clothes and headed for... THE GYM!!!!!  FINALLY!  While driving the short mile and a half to the gym, we passed by the outside track and massive field only to see ANTELOPE, lots of antelope, just hanging out as people walked passed! So of course, our first desire was to do our running OUTSIDE on the track, by the antelope. Layne has never wanted a loaded gun so badly as this afternoon! I was just tickled watching Layne freak out over how many antelope there were and how close he could get to them... =)  After the initial shock of the animals faded, we ran...and it was HARD. For Layne to stop after a little more than a mile says a lot... being inactive for almost 3 weeks and the higher altitudes (we are at higher elevations than Colorado, 6000 ft! ) it was a painful 2.5 mile run for us.
After the gym we made a stop at the BX for some necessities (cough medicine, cough drops, and a battery charger) The cough drops were the effects of our run in the dry/high weather out here. I'm still coughing 6 hours later...
After that, we showered up and headed out to dinner with some of my old college friends who live here now.  It was nice to see old faces!
I'm very sleepy and about to conk out again. (I have a feeling this is going to be the trend...!)
We head out to Salt Lake City, Utah tomorrow!

Total time: 7 hours (though we gained an hour!)
Total miles driven: 447
Praising God for another safe day of travel! Thanks for the prayers over us!

Bye for now,
Jenni
