Day 5:Utah to Oregon

Well hello folks!! I'm sorry for the delay, but I've been out of a wifi area since we reached Utah on Friday!! Now that I'm back in the wifi world, I can give you a re-cap of our weekend. (it's Sunday night right now...) We were so happy to have a day off from driving. Layne's friend Jesse and his wife, Lydia were our awesome hosts for the weekend. Jesse and Layne were in pilot training together and were very close, so I know Layne was very happy to be hanging with his old buddy. Friday night was uneventful, just dinner with Jesse's whole family then crashed around 12 that night. We woke up and set off for the huge air show at Hill AFB, I was sooo excited... until I realized that the weather was rapidly worsening and this underdressed, cold-natured gal was forming goosebumps on my goosebumps! As we were walking towards the tent Jesse was working, I did get to see about 3 different jets fly and saw some awesome planes! We had JUST walked to the complete opposite end of the flight line and through the thousands of people, only to realize the overcast sky became dark in minutes... And then the rain started. JOY. Cold, 20 mph winds, and now rain...with one long sleeved shirt on! After a 30 minute walk, and sitting in the car trying to leave base for over an hour, we finally ended our unsuccessful day at the air show. But hey, I survived! :P The rest of the day we hung out and took cat naps at the house. We went to dinner in downtown Salt Lake city at a place called Gracie's. It was fun and we got to experience what it was like to chase down not 1, not 2, but 3 trains to get us where we needed to go!! It was fun. After catching the trains back home, we all changed and got in the hot tub outside at their house. It was a great way to end our night. (minus the dog running away at 1:30 in the morning...) :P

We left this morning around 10:30 and drove through the rest of Utah, a bit of Idaho, and are now planted for the night in La Grande, Oregon. The sights have been amazing- cloudy mountains, brief bouts of rain followed by sun and beautiful fluffy clouds. The terrain has gone from flat and sights for miles, to rolling hills, to canyon's, then back to mountains with snowy tops. Oh and wind. Lots of annoying wind. It hasn't stopped since Wyoming!! Forget having a nice hair'do since it will be blown away immediately!! Ha! La Grande is cute and quaint, yet still has plenty of "normal" food options with unique eateries as well. We ate at an authentic Mexican place tonight (La Fiesta!) and it was AMAZING! This will be our last night in the states... Tomorrow we will be in Vancouver, BC!! We will make a pit stop in Seattle so I can see the city and visit the very first Starbucks!!!(<--wahoo!!) I still can't believe that this is happening and this is part of my life's story. I am humbled and honored everyday to be given the opportunity to make this journey. Through all of the awesome sights and new places, I've been reminded subtly that I am here to honor God first and to beMyers for my husband. Where he goes, I go. For years I have sought to be successful and have a great career and support myself all on my own... But now, I feel honored to be by Layne's side and the person he leans on for support when his crazy career is a bit too much for him. I miss my family and friends so very much already, but I am growing in ways already that I never realized I could- both as person and as a new wife. I look forward to continuing our journey together. Please pray for our continued safety both now and in the future and for the growth of our new marriage. We both seek to honor the Lord and put him as the center. Thanks for reading my silly posts and for the strength you have given to Layne and I. Total miles driven today: 460 miles Total hours: 7 hours Overall miles: approx 2300 (I'm not in the car so I can't remember exactly) Jenni
