Day 2: St Louis to Nebraska
After a relatively good night's rest, we hit the road to make our first stop in St. Louis, MO to see the historical and amazing piece of steel, the Gateway Arch!! We took pictures outside with the arch and inside at the the museum. Unfortunately we couldn't catch a ride up due to our tight schedule, but I was happy to have at least seen it in person. The historical part of town reminded me of downtown Savannah; old buildings, cobblestone streets, and unique shops and restaurants sitting by a small river with awesome bridges all around. I definitely wish we could have stayed longer that's for sure! We hit the road a few minutes before 11am and most of our journey was nothing but the pastures and farms that make up Missouri. After making our first stop for gas, weigh our loaded car, and eat our free lunch of chicken salad sandwiches (made by my wonderful mother)for the 2nd day, I took over the driving. Again, the drive was of pastures, farming equipment, and rolling hills. (and a constant battle of keeping my car from being manhandled by the wind.)
Stopping only twice for gas, and once at a rest area to use the bathroom, we made spectacular time, reaching Lincoln, Nebraska by 6:30! I checked us into the Holiday Inn in downtown Lincoln and we went and ate at a restaurant called Lazolos. Our food was delish, but filling. No deserts for us tonight! (attempting to lose the weight we compiled on our honeymoon cruise and having no gym or time to workout totally stinks...) ((<--random sidenote) We walked around the area a bit, checking out the old train station and taking pictures of the stormy sky. Though old and small, I kinda like this city and wish we could stay longer. The history in this area seems to be written on the walls and buildings, in a subtle yet tantalizing way. Exploration over, I'm exhausted and eager to swim in this comfy kingsize bed and fall asleep next to my wonderful husband (<-- who is already snoozing btw!)
Total time:7 1/2 hours
Miles driven: 450(ish?!)
Bye for now, Jen
