Day 1: Atlanta to Missouri

Day 1: Hello! I am putting a disclaimer out before I write anything more: this is my very first attempt at "blogging" and it has been quite a few years since I've actually written more than a few sentences at a time... sad, I know. So please take this for what it is; an ordinary gal who plays in the gym for a living and never has to write, attempting to sound educated on a blog for all to see! (Lord help me) So after a busy weekend of visiting with as many friends and family we could, and saying our bittersweet goodbyes, Layne and I left GA with a loaded car and an eagerness only comparable to that of a child going to an amusement park. The time had finally come for us to start our 2 week journey through the United States and Canada to reach our final destination of Anchorage, ALASKA!! While I have waited for an opportunity like this for as long as I can remember, it was hard holding back a few tears as I hugged my beloved family goodbye. Leaving my nephew Dylan, and my precious niece Kolbi was the hardest of all. But, like a champion (if I do say so myself) I gladly hopped in the car with my handsome new prince and waved goodbye to my dear family. Our 5,000 mile journey has finally begun. Our route for day one went through Chattanooga and Nashville Tennessee, the southwest corner of Kentucky, then across the southern tip of Illinois. We decided to stay just outside of St Louis at Scott AFB in Bellville, Illinois. The base was very nice, with newer looking buildings and homes.(I've not seen many bases yet though, so I may not be the best judge!) After unloading our bags and having an amazing meal at a local hibachi grill, Layne and I came back and are crashing fast! It is all I can do to keep my eyes open... Driving for hours on end is exhausting!! Besides hitting some traffic that lead us on an annoying 45 minute detour, our drive was nice and relatively uneventful. We are thankful to the good Lord to have made it safe and sound. Day 1 is complete!

Hours driven: 9 1/2
Miles driven: 490

Goodnight for now,
Jen
