Kluane Lake |
Well today was the day of our trip until Anchorage!! Like yesterday, the drive today was pretty brutal. The condition of the roads were terrible and always requiring us to slow down drastically as we went from paved roads to gravel back to paved. I say paved, but there were so many dips and holes, you would never think it was an actual paved road. I imagine this is how the early settlers felt riding in their wagons through the bumpy terrain and uneven "roads"! (ok, so it was WAY worse for them... I know) We passed one very awesome lake called the Kluane Lake. Much like Muncho Lake a few days ago, this area was beautiful, the water was aqua, and the air was frigid. We stopped at the beginning of our drive around the lake to take more pictures and soak it all in.
We continued driving around the lake and there were massive patches that were still frozen over and thick chunks of ice lined the edges. We were again, awestruck. God is amazing. =)
After that glorious sighting it was downhill from there. (not literally of course- it was up and down and up and down hill technically....ha!) The weather got nasty out and the things to see became very few and far between. Many "towns" had been shut down. We finally found an area called Beaver Creek where thankfully they had gas (only $5.50 a gallon...) and a place to eat. We ate at this nice cabin called Buckshot Betty's. The food was good, but again overpriced for what you get. I guess we should be used to this by now, we are in the middle-of-nowhere Canada so of course prices will be steep! After lunch we pressed on and finally made it to the border...HALLELUJAH WE ARE BACK TO THE USA!!!
The sign to Alaska was something I thought I'd never see in my lifetime... and there it was! A beautiful sight for sure. We crossed over our last time zone, so we are now 4 hours behind our Georgia folk. We cross through the border with no problems and we finally see MPH signs instead of kilometers...woohoo!! After more blah driving in the rain, we made it to Tok, Alaska for our last stop. It was a welcomed sight and we were thankful to be in a "town" again.
We stayed in a cute little cabin and passed the time until we were tired. It is getting harder and harder to know when to go to sleep when the sun is blazing outside at 11pm at night. Our home in Alaska will most definitely have black out curtains. =) Praise the Lord we made it through the rough roads, back to America, and safely at our last stop. My poor car is probably exhausted and definitely needs a bath!
Total Miles: 386
Total hours: 8
Total overall miles: 4,962
Tomorrow we will be in Anchorage! Woo hoo!
ta-ta for now!
